Burden Bearer

The names and characteristics of our Loving Father stare back at me from the page where I’m garnering my praise for Him.  This morning the praise does not flow.  Like a river log-jammed with worry, my praise for God stands motionless in pools of deep anxiety.  My heart feels grey and lifeless.  It finds no way over the fallen trunks of hope.

Again I force my eyes to the page of exaltation.  Numbly, I read the words. Names for an awesome God.  And then my eyes focus on the one name. The one Way for me to move the logjam.

Burden Bearer.

Oh! How I needed Him to bear my burdens today.  I flipped through the pages of my journal. On the empty lines, my heart runs through my pen.  Every worry, every burden, every anxious thought I lay at His feet.

Graciously, the Burden Bearer picks them up and places the beam across His shoulders.

Breathing easier, I pass through the area where hope had fallen.  New hope effervesces and with it comes the joy.  Praise flows again like a stream carving out its course.

I leave that place of quiet relieved, refreshed, restored.

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”
 Psalm 68:19 NIV

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NIV
